Reviews & Giveaways

KidloLand, A Children’s Educational App, Review and Giveaway.

I was provided with a free subscription in exchange for my honest review, by KidloLand. All opinions expressed here and in other parts of the blog are honest and 100% my own.

Pre motherhood, I swore to myself that I would not be that mom who just hands over the iPad or iPhone to her child in order to keep him or her entertained and out of my face. I cringed when I saw families out at restaurants not interacting because they all had some sort of electronic device in front of them. This latter one may be due to how I was raised. Since dinner was the one time in the day that my parents and I could share, they truly emphasized conversation during that time. It was my time to talk about anything and everything.

Now that I am a mother, although I still cringe at the thought of sitting at the table with my family and not interacting with them, I realize that sometimes you need to be a little more lenient. One of the many beautiful things about becoming a mother is that you soon realize that many misconceptions you had pre motherhood will be thrown out the window immediately once you are the one with a crying toddler or you honestly just need a minute to yourself.

Although Nick does watch television, I make sure that a) the time is limited and b) the content of what he watches is educational. However, because I want to emphasize less technology reliance on my son I do tend to limit the type and amount of technology that he uses, therefore the little technology that he is allowed to use has to be of high quality. I had been looking for a good educational app that I could have Nick use so that he would stop biting my phone and I was super excited when KidloLand offered a free subscription for their app for Nick in exchange for our honest review.

KidloLand is an app designed for (and loved by) children under five years old. With the use of this app, children can learn their ABC’s, animals, fruits, vegetables, shapes and much more. What is awesome about this app is that it contains 520 + interactive nursery rhymes, songs, and educational activities. The app is available at the Apple Store, Google Play Store, and the Amazon App Store. You can read more about it yourself, here.

Age Appropriate:

While trying to find a good app for Nick to use, I came upon a variety that were advertised for his age group. Nonetheless, the majority of these apps turned out to be either too advanced for him or they were actually geared towards younger children who would in fact sit still by just listening to a nursery rhyme without much interaction. While KidloLand is aimed at children 0 to 5, I have to say that I liked the fact that it has activities for all ages in said group. There is something for everyone. For example,  the Games and Activities require somewhat more interaction and motor skills than my almost seventeen month old masters at the moment, so we will save those for later. Nonetheless, the Songs, Nursery Rhymes, Stories, and Phonics are great for his level. The latter also provide additional sources of interaction so older children will still be engaged.

Although I only have one child, I think this app is great for those families with more than one. Why? Say you have a one year old and a 4 year old, you don’t need to invest in two different apps since this app will do the job for both of those age groups.

Educational:

Each feature in the KidloLand app is geared towards teaching your little one something. Whether it is phonics, a nursery rhyme, colors, animals, or even reading, your child will be learning something each time he or she uses this app. And the best part is that they won’t feel like they’re actually learning.

I have to say that I was very impressed when I saw Nick try to do the sounds after a few minutes of using the Phonics feature. This is a personal favorite. The Phonics feature teaches your little one through songs what sound each letter makes. I sat next to Nick as we both heard the song and next thing I know he’s opening his mouth in order to say “A” and just blurbs it out. I thought that this was great and shows the type of impact a good educational app can have on your children.

Stimulation/Interaction:

As stated above, this app offers various opportunities for interaction. This is probably key when you are trying to find an educational app for your little ones. Having your child watch television or play with an app that does not stimulate their brain is definitely not beneficial at all. I personally always look for ways to have my child interact with the environment around him because that is how he will develop better. Also, children have very small attention spans, it is crucial that they interact in order to stick around. As you can see in the video, my little one is still learning how exactly to interact with the app, but he is able to see that if he touches the screen something will happen, either a noise or a different picture will come up. This keeps him engaged and more likely to continue with the app rather than push it to the side and move along to the next thing.

The app has a simple look. It has bright colors to catch your little one’s attention and is also very easy to use. Don’t be fooled by its “simple” look as it offers so much. My little one is able to return to the main screen and chose the various activities he wants to engage in. As for myself, the app makes it very easy for parents. There are various downloads within the app, however, the good thing is that once you download it, you can use the app whether you have internet connection or not.

FINAL VERDICT: We love it! It is not only educational, but also fun. While it offers many opportunities for your child to learn, it does a good job in not overwhelming them. It makes learning fun both for the little ones and the parents. In fact, I have found myself singing the phonics songs while at court waiting for my cases to be called up.

  1. Great post. There’s balance with everything. You also don’t want to ignore the tech stuff and have your kid behind. I also love Kidloland app. It’s wonderful for those few minutes of peace…
